Childers brace not enough as Cranes draw with Green Bay after stoppage-time equalizer.

Despite a brace from Raena Childers, Kaw Valley FC only managed a 2-2 draw at home against the Green Bay Glory on Friday night. Despite leading 2-1 heading into stoppage time, the Glory found an equalizer in the 91st minute to draw.
Out of the gate, the Cranes controlled the tempo and possession through the first 9 minutes, but it took only one opportunity from Green Bay to flip the switch. After a fiery run from Green Bay forward Christine Kitaru she passed off to Shaylin Jerrod who put the ball in the back of the net as the Glory took an early 1-0 lead.
Green Bay took that momentum from the goal and ran with it as they controlled the game for the next 10 minutes, but didn’t come away with a second goal to show for the work. The Cranes began to work themselves back into the match and find more opportunities going forward, but nothing threatening.
Despite entering halftime still down 1-0, the Cranes found a quick flurry of chances at the end of the first half led by a golden chance from Raena Childers, who had a shot in the box that flew over the goal, and Kate Dreyer who sent a free-kick on target, but the shot was saved.
The second half started out slow for both squads as neither found legitimate shots at a goal, until the 63rd minute when the Cranes found the equalizer. Childers masterfully brought the ball down off her chest and fired home a spectacular half volley to notch the game at one apiece with all still to play for.
Kaw Valley continued to push forward and began to take greater control of the match as it continued into the 87th minute, and the breakthrough came shortly after. After she earned the penalty on a great run into the box, Childers fired home her second goal of the day to give the Cranes their first lead of the game at 2-1.
Unfortunately for the Cranes, the lead didn’t last for long. A minute into stoppage time, Green Bay found the equalizer off a header as the Glory notched the score at two apiece. Neither team could find the winner afterward and the match ended 2-2.

The Cranes will hit the road and travel to Minnesota for a showdown with Minnesota Aurora FC on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
