Cranes welcome players from across the region, country for inaugural campaign

(LAWRENCE, KS) Kaw Valley FC, an elite pre-professional soccer team in Lawrence and Topeka, KS has announced their initial roster for the 2018 campaign. KVFC is the Proud Developmental Partner of Major League Soccer club Sporting Kansas City and has signed players from across the country for the summer season. Athletes from colleges in over 15 different states including Marquette, Loyola University, West Virginia University, University of Pacific, and Furman University will be joining the KVFC squad as they vie for the Heartland Division title in the Premier Development League.

Former Sporting Kansas City Academy members make up a significant portion of this year’s team. Players such as defenders Alex Kaddah and Jack Freeman both served as team captains during their time with the Sporting KC Academy. Additionally, midfielders Christian Albelo, Nic Jaimes, as well as forward Cole McLagan are just a few of the other team members that attended the Sporting KC Academy. “The biggest based of players is the former Sporting Kansas City Academy Players,” Head Coach Istvan Urbanyi said,  “Ninety-percent of the SKC Academy have played for me in the past and I’m excited to be back with them.”

The second large group of players consists of former Sporting Kansas City Academy Affiliate participants. Previous members of Sporting Blue Valley, Sporting Kaw Valley, Sporting Wichita, Sporting Omaha, and Sporting St. Croix all join the Cranes this season. With the amount of Sporting KC Academy Affiliate members on the roster it will “send the message [that] Kaw Valley FC is going to be ‘our’ program for all the Affiliates” said Urbanyi.

“After talking to the players in person and seeing the introduction videos, I can already see the group chemistry,” Urbanyi stated. “Even though this is the first year, I already have the feeling this is not a new team in their first season.”

Kaw Valley FC begins play on their inaugural Premier Development League season on May 18th in Chicago, Illinois. Home matches begin May 25th at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, KS and will also be played in Topeka at Washburn University and Hummer Park.
